Coding mock interview with an AI interviewer

A coding mock interview is not a timed problem set. It is a conversation about a problem, and most of the points are for how you handle it: what you ask, how you choose, how you test and what you say when the interviewer pushes back.

What is a coding mock interview?

A coding mock interview is a practice session where you solve a programming problem with an interviewer watching. You explain your approach, write and run code in a live editor, answer follow-up questions about edge cases and complexity, and get scored feedback on each stage of the conversation.

How the session runs

The interviewer states the problem in a few sentences and asks how you would approach it. You clarify inputs and constraints, outline a solution and name its time and space complexity. Only then do you write the code, in an editor that runs it, while the interviewer reads what you type.

After the code comes the part many people skip in solo practice: cross-questions. The interviewer asks about an edge case you did not handle, traces a bug with you, or changes a constraint so your solution no longer fits. The session ends with a scored report.

What is scored

The report separates the stages, because they fail for different reasons. Approach covers clarifying, choosing and complexity. Code covers correctness and clarity. Cross-questions cover how well you defended and adapted. A single number would hide that you lose most points explaining, not coding, or the reverse.

Levels and timing

Easy, Medium and Hard set the clock at 60, 45 and 30 minutes and how strict the interviewer is. When your scores are high the platform suggests the next level, and from Hard it moves you to a topic-based interview with questions you have not seen. Your first 3 single-question interviews are free for life, every interview report is free, and a new account also gets 6 welcome credits.

Choosing your questions

Pick by topic (arrays, trees, graphs, dynamic programming) or by company: company guides at giveinterview.com/interviews list the questions each company is known to ask. Language pages such as the Python and Java ones list the standard-library tools and traps for each language.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a coding mock interview?

Easy runs 60 minutes, Medium 45 and Hard 30. Role interviews on the platform run their own lengths, such as a 45-minute coding round.

Can I use any programming language?

The live editor runs the common interview languages, including Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, Go, Rust, Kotlin, Swift and C#.

Is the interviewer scripted?

No. It reacts to what you say and write, so two sessions on the same problem differ.
